About the Author
Michel Shehadeh immigrated to the United States from Palestine in 1975 to pursue higher education. His life changed forever when he was arrested as part of the Los Angeles Eight case, accused of terrorism without evidence.
Despite the arrest derailing his education, Michel returned to finish what he started earning a B.A. in Journalism and a master’s degree in public administration.
Over the years, he went on to become:
- Western Regional Director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee
- Executive Director of the Arab Film Festival in San Francisco
- A published writer in the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Rai al-Youm, and Al-Adab
- A strong advocate for civil rights, immigrant justice, and freedom of expression

Michel’s fight for justice may have begun in a courtroom, but its impact continues far beyond it.
The L.A. 8 case stands as a reminder that:
voices cannot be exiled, truth cannot be silenced, and justice belongs to those who refuse to stand down.
